You know when you meet someone and you hit it off right away, it feels like you've known this person your whole life! This is what happened when I met this wonderful gal, Alex! Today on Behind the Chair, she shares her love for running and her upcoming 200km Bike ride! She's an inspiring athlete with the most kind and loving heart! Every time Alex and I get together, we're always laughing and having great life chats. One of my favorite things about Alex is that she's always so encouraging, and has helped me through so much this year! So thankful for this wonderful lady!
Tell us about yourself:
I'm happily married to my high school sweetheart (awwwww, insert all the feels), but I also have a thing for Chrisses - you know, the Pratt, Evans, and Hemsworth variety. I'm pretty sure that you all have a thing for Chrisses now too after reading that! I work for charity by day, but my real passion lies in adventuring, running, swimming, cycling, and sports. The sweatier, the better.
Inspiration for Running:
It probably sounds weird, but running itself inspires me. Having always been a bigger gal, running was something I wasn't fond of. I played a lot of sports growing up and have always felt drawn to athletic adventures, but running to chase something is a lot different than running for distance. In 2013, I weighed my heaviest and I hit my breaking point. It was at this point that I took up running and learned to love it, along with the added bonus of developing a quiet self confidence. Since taking up running, I have completed multiple half marathons, Around the Bay's 30k, and my first triathlon last summer. At this point, I think it's safe to say that I haven't looked back since!
Why I'm Doing the Ride:
There are a few reasons why I decided to do the Ride to Conquer Cancer this year. One of the main reasons was because it's a cause that touches the lives of so many people. It felt good to sign up for something that made me feel like I was part of something bigger than just a race. I was also motivated by the idea that the race itself seemed impossible. I really enjoy tackling challenges that I think are impossible because they represent so many opportunities to learn more about myself and of course, to prove myself wrong!
Do you have a motivational/inspirational quote that helps you get through a :
I have a lot of favourites, but when I am having my own pity party or need a good, solid kick in the pants, this is the one I always circle back to:
What is your favortie way to wear your hair?
I 100% fully admit that I most definitely did not get the braid gene, but I will say that I have perfected the art of the top knot. The higher and the wispier, the better. I'm convinced you can handle anything the world throws at you with a trusty top knot and that's why it's my favourite go to way to wear my hair.
