OWC Progress Report

How is it already November and the holidays are just around the corner?! I cannot believe how quickly this year has flown by! I'm so thankful for a year full of many adventures and goals that I have been able to accomplish! One of my goals was to get stronger, but train wiser. Paluna asked me back in August to check out her One Word Club fitness program. I went for the month of August and got hooked after going for a week, I felt great and there was so much improvement in my training! I love running, y'all know that by now, but what some of you may not know, is that I was injured a few years ago and had to lay low on my running, I started doing other things to stay active, and slowly started running. Fast forward to 2015 I injured my back (again!) and knew I had to change something in my training. Fast forward again to August of 2016 and within a month things improved drastically, in the best way possible, thanks to Paluna! It's now November and I've been attending OWC for four months. Each month I wanted to set new goals for myself, and beat them, but it was a quick lesson that things will not change overnight. I have to keep practicing and I will see change. So last month I set three goals for myself: 

  1. To do a pull-up
  2. Do at least 10 hollow rocks, 'perfectly'
  3. Touch my Toes!

Here's what happened: The Pull-up. I'm still practicing and no I didn't do one but I'm proud of the mini victories! Paluna makes us do dead hangs, active hangs, and scapular pull-ups with an over hand grip and a chin up grip. I'm happy to report that I can definitely do those for at least 30 seconds (that's the time she gives up on the bar before switching to do hollow body rocks-ahhh!) I did all of these without having to take a mini break! I really think I'm going to be able to do a pull soon! 

The Hollow Rock: The goal was to do 10 in a row 'perfectly' By perfect, it means to keep your shoulders off the floor. Last Friday we had 30 second to do as many as we could, I did it! I even beat my goal of doing just 10!! I'm so so so happy about this one. It's not easy at all, it actually feels harder, I had a feeling of wanting to throw up, instead I closed my eyes and kept going, it was over so quick! To be honest, I don't like doing these, but that's what I said about burpees when I was first introduced to them...I'm sure my feelings will change, maybe.

Touch my Toes: So as a runner, I am not very flexible at all! When I started attending OWC, and Paluna would tell us what our next moves were, in my head I was like 'no way can I touch my toes or stretch like that!' While I was in Chicago a few weeks ago, I went to an NTC class on Monday night, it was a mobility class, I told myself this is perfect because I am missing OWC so this class is exactly what I need, especially after a few days of walking around the city. We used the foam roller, did a lot of different stretches, then it came to the part where we had to touch our toes...I DID IT! I could not stop smiling, the rest of the class was amazing! I had the best feeling in the world! I had never been able to touch my toes before, and it's certainly an amazing feeling to check something off that goals list! (This goal has been on my list for about a year or more!)
